Personally I don't think Dylan ever gave that much of a shit, or more particularly, I think Dylan is fairly typical of a person that turns into that big of a cultural phenomenon, which is to say, he's got narcissistic personality disorder, so whatever particular causes he may espouse, it is predominantly in service of his own ongoing manifestation in the culture. Electing the protest/folk persona at the time he did was a particular kind of genius (and don't get me wrong, I think the man's a genius) but he hasn't needed to be anything in particular besides BOB DYLAN for a very long time. I find it hard to believe he doesn't have more money than he can spend. At this point I think it is just a relentless instinct for self-promotion perpetuating a career whose greater social relevance ended decades ago. I disagree on this one.
